Fast-paced, lots of fun for the whole family!Feb 20, 2010 I absolutely love this game. Some games I love the first few times they're played, but after the novelty wears off they're good not great. But, this game has survived many playings over 5 months, and I love it just as much as the first time I played.
Dutch Blitz is a game that involves speed. You're playing cards in the middle, which other players can play off of, as well as organizing your stacks to move through your blitz pile of 10 cards faster. Once someone is through their blitz pile, the hand is over, and you lose 2 points for every blitz card left and gain 1 for every card played in the middle. So, you're trying to beat other players to the punch, keep an eye on what other players have on tap, and get yours cards organized. Each hand plays in 5-10 minutes, so this game has lots of easy natural stopping points. It's easy to continue the game later, even another day; just keep track of that score sheet!
One small negative, there are times when you are flipping through your cards and just can't do anything until someone else changes the cards in the middle. This isn't really a problem with 3 or 4 players, but occasionally with 2 players, you'll both be stuck. In that situation, we shake up the order of the cards we're shuffling through (you turn over 3 at a time so skip over some), and that usually fixes it.
Dutch Blitz is a game that especially favors those who are good at multitasking and have a fast "processor" speed. That's me, and that's probably part of why I love it. But, my husband, who is more methodical and careful in his thinking, also enjoys the game, even though he doesn't win as often as I do. Our 8 yo and 6 ½ yo also greatly enjoy the game, although the younger can't take full advantage of the ability to stack your post cards.
This is an enjoyable and great game for 2-4 players. It is most likely to be enjoyed by those who like strategy games and aren't overwhelmed by having to make rapid decisions. If it helps in making the assessment of whether this game is right for your family, my husband and I also enjoy Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, San Juan, and card games like pitch and spades.
Fun for the whole family, and your intoxicated friends!Feb 10, 2010 The rules of this game are fairly simple and easy to understand, making it playable for even the youngest crowd. Through the interaction of several players, the simple rules result in a fast paced, exciting and challenging gameplay. Traditionally teams can be formed to allow specialization of individual tasks, thereby accelerating the pace of the game even further. So it's good for family ( if kids are too young they can be paired with someone else, and their roll in the game can be simplified to keep them competitive ), and it's good for adults ( the level of difficulty can be exponentially increased through various levels of inebriation at parties and such for higher entertainment value ).
All and all it's a very dynamic and exciting game. It'll get your heart pounding for sure.
Best Card Game in the WorldFeb 09, 2010 I absolutely love this game. I've been able to play it with people from 10 years old to over 60 years old, and they all had a good time! In fact, they would demand to play more often than I would, and I consider myself a bit of a Dutch Blitz addict! This is a great game to bring to family functions or to just play at home or with friends. If you're not into card games in general or get easily frustrated, this game is not for you anyway. But then, you're probably not a game person in general.
I gave this product 3 stars for durability and educational value because 1) since this is a speed game, hands and cards may go flying, and depending on how careful you are, cards may get bent, though not often (plus they're made out of paper like any deck of cards); and 2) much of this is luck because it depends on the results of your shuffle as well as everyone else's.
Incorrect set of cardsFeb 06, 2010 We bought multiple decks and one of the decks had the wrong set of cards. Too many of one kind and other cards missing.
Dutch BlitzFeb 05, 2010 Totally awesome game. Played it with 8 people (2 decks) on Christmas Day with family. Had a blast!
